chickencam
I am wondering if she is standing up to lay them, but quite a lot of hens stand as they actually don't they? They have good normal shells but almost every day they are cracked, mainly on the rounded end but a couple of times on the side. I don't know which girl it is. We have added extra shavings to the enst box which has helped a bit. Anyone else with a similar problem?
Daphne
I've only ever had this when somebody laid on the bars. If they're in the nestbox could someone be walking/sitting/standing on them once they are laid? If so, are you able to dance attendance on your hens and whip the egg out as soon as its laid? JS1
We had this and panicked in case there was egg pecking going on. Then we realised the nesting box was looking a bit sp"Ooops, word censored!" so added loads more shredded paper, which did the trick. No problem since. We also upped their calcium, but I don't actually think that was our problem (although I'm sure it did no harm)
