Soft eggshells more calcium needed?

Recommended Posts

Hi

We seems to be having a problem :( with some soft shells, or in some cases no shells (yolks found in poo tray under nesting bars). They have good quality layer pellets with added poultry spice and cod liver oil. They also have access to grit with some extra oyster grit added but it is still a problem. I have read they may be lacking in calcium. Is this the case and if so does anyone have a way of giving them some additional calcium?

Thanks, Lindi

You can give Zolcal or Limestone Flour. Mine laid some softies in the early days but stopped after I cut down of the amount of s"Ooops, word censored!"s they were eating. I never needed to add additional calcuim it automatically stopped when I adjusted their diet. I now feed layers pellets and only small quantities of treats and s"Ooops, word censored!"s. They seems to be getting enough grit etc whist they free range (all day)
