Guest
got friends coming on sat and i do NOT want to spend hours cooking something but would like to make something yummy to impress them i want a slow cooker recipe but i don't want to do a stew or a casserole as that's too predictable (unless it's a knockout recipe you've got for one). I was thinking goat curry but I might not be able to get goat before sat. defo not a tagine though as i've done that one to death! any ideas welcome as i want to spend time chatting, drinking and playing poker and NOT slaving over a hot stove! thanks in advance
majorbloodnock
Are they local to you, or travelling? Your being from Cheshire, I can't help but feel a decent lobscouse might go down well. As an alternative, though, a slow cooker can do a pretty good turn for boiling meats; how about a joint of boiled bacon? You could easily make up some parsley sauce in advance and just nuke it when needed.
Guest
they're coming from Scotland so I want to bung something in the slow cooker early on and forget about it until they arrive. scouse doesn't do well in a slow cooker I've found as the potatoes just disintegrate, maybe i used the wrong spuds...Being a scouser I've made scouse tons of times anyway, i wanted something a little more...exotic? majorbloodnock
OK, no problem. A slow cooker gumbo? Alternatively, I found this site, which might be useful to browse.

Space Chick
Not very exotic but a nice sausage and bean casserole would be lovely. Brown some onions and chopped sausages, stick in the slow cooker with a large glass of wine, some chicken stock, a tin of mixed beans, a dollop of tomato puree. Stir in some fresh parsley before serving. Yum Yum!
Guest
they're bringing a bottle of tequila so i've decided to do a chilli con carne, simple but tasty (I make my own from scratch with steak mince, onions, garlic, passata, chilli paste, pinto beans, kidney beans and baked beans) and we have it with nachos and cream cheese; a nacho with a blob of cream cheese on and a spoonful of chilli, nice! I want an evening off from cooking so I can bung all this in the slow cooker. Got a nice mascarpone and lemon cheescake for pud. sorted! Karen & co.
Sounds tasty my lot like tortilla corn chips in a bowl with a squirt of ketchup topped up with grated cheese and bunged under the grill for a few mins, goes well with a chilli as a starter Karen x
