sandyhas3chucks
I have searched and cannot find, so sorry. Are peanuts good ,bad, or indifferent to chooks. Nutritional value?
House MD 221B
http://www.sciencebuddies.org/science-fair-projects/project_ideas/Zoo_p020.shtml This was a scientific experiment:"Eggs and Hen's Diet: Can You Get Bigger Eggs for Peanuts?" So I'm guessing yes. However I DO NOT believe that the salt is that good for them, so maybe unsalted ones as they can't process it and it can damage their livers I believe (please anyone feel free to correct me on ANY of this if it is inaccurate) I also found this on Wiki answers: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Can_chickens_eat_peanut_butter hope this helps, I'd probably get some more solid advice from a more experienced member before trying it perhaps. But that's what I've managed to find on the topic. Personally we've never fed the peanuts, but only because we don't really have them in the house. sandyhas3chucks
thanks for that, It is plain wild bird peanuts I have, I think I have the only wild brd population that won't eat peanuts, but I was adviced that it some were good for recovering pigeons. I guessed that some or the odd few would be ok,, but would rather grind them and use them up over the winter for any feathered friends that will eat them PROVIDED that I am not going to do my girls any harm. Redwing
What about Acorn, a chap told me his chooks lurve them, but am not brave enough to take the plunge! They turn the egg yolks green Sandy, wild birds here dont touch peanuts and I had a load to use up, I fed them to the chickens sparingly and did crush them first (the peanuts )
