The Rivetts
Our 2 chooks free-range all day. Our garden is only enclosed by a beech hedge of a round 3 feet high, and then we are open to fields. Quite a few people 'round here have livestock, and some will shoot Mr Fox if they see him. Our decision was that since they are so much happier free-ranging, we would take the chance of a happy life over a lengthy but bored one. As many others say, this is really a personal choice. I think that like most other domestic animals, your chooks will adapt to whatever becomes normal for them. A hen in an eglu is in a far better place than a battery hen.
