Sarahsausage
Oh it's so sad seeing them in such a state, it breaks my heart thinking about what they have to go through. Barn hens always seem to be in a worse state than battery hens but you think it would be the other way round! Bless you for rescuing them! They bring such pleasure! Tutti Frutti
Becky Boo, Slim and Skye - can I quickly ask please, what are you (will you be) feeding your new girls on? And what is mash, is it the same as crumbs (oh I sound really dim!)? Do you add water to it? Will you also be deworming them? I don't know whether they'll eat Verm-X as it's pellets so might try Flubenvet (powder). Thank you! See some of you on Saturday maybe! sandyhas3chucks
tuti fruti, they will be used to mash which is a course powder. apparently they take to crumb, hence the ex bat range beimg pellet or cumb. Many BHWT sell the crumb at pick up point, so you could ask. Also leave it 2 to 3 weeks before worming as the move change etc will quite likely upset their tums. Just give them time to settle down, then also if there is problem that needs treating, you won;t be misled by worming dodgy tum. Also I don't think barn hens are WORSE than ex bats, thy all vary so I guess they are unfortunately NO BETTER! I have helped at rescue where loads a real big fat fully feathered, others look fab and are light as a feather and desperately underweight, and others bald red pathetic. All from the same battery. It is all just pants
Tutti Frutti
Thank you Sandy, that' great advice, I really appreciate it and of course it's obvious and makes perfect sense now I've got my sensible (not excited!) head on
sandyhas3chucks
unfortunately they "can" come out with things, and the stress of course and coming out into the live world, can also succumb to things too. I really rate eregano products Personally use oregostim but there is HERBAN sold in PETS Corner at WYVALE WOKING. It does not always mean antibiotics are bever needed but I certainly had some very good results too. AND the ever fab CITRICIDAL
