Laying eggs in their run

Recommended Posts

Hello

Can anyone suggest how I can get my new-to-laying white sussex to lay eggs in the nest box instead of the run? It makes it rather hard to retrieve them, and they are terribly muddy!

Will she eventually get the hang of it, or is she destined to remain untidy like her owner (my daughter!)?

Suggestions greatly appreciated!

i think she will eventually get the hang of it. ours lay in the nest box most of the time but if one decides to make a nest in the garden then the other 2 will share the nest and lay there until we cover it up. myrtle took to laying them in our veg box (after comsuming the veg!!) and in the tomatoes, and charlie quite liked under the tree but they all go back to the house eventually

if it's in the same place every time stick a bigish plant pot there or a house brick or 2 just to make the spot less nice to lay on took mine a month to get the hang of laying in the nest box still get the odd one laid in the night but i think they are the ones that come quickier than they should then its a case of any port in a storm sort of thing oh they also seem to be thin shelled ones
