A chickychickychick-ENN!!
I'm struggling to think of a christmas gift for a teenager I know. She's doing GCSEs this year, but unfortunately is not at all applied and keeps bad company. Her mother keeps talking about university and becoming a teacher, but it seems an unrealistic expectation. The two things she really likes are hair and make-up, so OH and I are gently trying to encourage her to pay more attention to maths and English so she has the very basics to get some training in hair and beauty. She'll be lucky to s"Ooops, word censored!"e Ds or Es, so I'd like to find something that can at least flare her up a bit to get those. She's not dyslexic or dyscalculic, she's just lazy, as is her parent. I was wondering, has anyone come across any basic, easy to read books on teenage entrepreneurship? I'm thinking if she can see a glimmer of a chance to set up on her own (she doesn't do authority too well either), she might have a chance of a job rather than the teen pregnancy/benefits route which seems a very real possibility right now. I'm loathe to get her another Rimmel gift set. Edited November 20, 2009 by Guest
Couperwife
what about encouraging her to make her own beauty products? you can get lip balm kits and soap making kits, maybe these might inspire her you could offer to "buy" a lip balm from her (when she has made them) to show that they are she could make them for her friends (I think the kit I got was £10 to make 30 lipbalms) was this useful (I hope so ) cathy x
Chucky Mama
It's a tricky one, various Dragons from Dragons' Den have books out. I got one out of the library by Duncan Bannantine but never got around to reading it. I supsect though that she would be more interested in a book by Jordan. Having said that she is a very savvy buisness woman.
A chickychickychick-ENN!!
That's a great idea Cathy, but too much like hard work for her, alas. Jordan really should do a business book. Although the thought of a thousand kids taking her literally and ending up running the country... shudder!
Willow
How about http://www.amazon.co.uk/Screw-Lets-Do-Lessons-Quick/dp/0753510995/ref=sr_1_40?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1259014733&sr=1-40 I haven't read it myself so can't recommend it myself but it sounds suitable
A chickychickychick-ENN!!
Thanks! Might be worth a bash. She's not been going to school every day this past week and her parent has told me she doesn't expect her to turn up for exams. Anything to try to offer a ray of motivation is worth a shot.
