ex batt not laying-again

Recommended Posts

One of my ex batts hasnt laid an egg in about a week. I originally thought the other ex batt wasnt laying either, but i discovered her secret laying place today behind the shed! about a week ago they both stopped laying for a couple of days, and then stopped again. (follow?!) I started mixing flubenvet with their feed at the end of last week, but there shouldnt be any egg withdrawral. Is it the time of year or are they getting old?

My ex-batt lot have always been a bit unpredictable and at least two of the big girls have stopped laying altogether (but they have been out of their cages 18 months this week, so may now be past egg laying). One of the little girls (March rescue) hasn't laid a thing since her second week here, but is a very sweet little hen who follows me round the garden and makes noises like a squeaky toy :D

Are yours recent releases? They can sometimes have a bit of a rest when they first come out and get shocked by the big wide world. Are they moulting? All of my big girls are, except Daisy who doesn't lay anyway, and egg-production is almost non-existent at the moment.

Hope you get them going again soon. I tried shaking the box of paxo at my lot  , but even that didn't work

As long as they are not blocked I say HURRAH HURRAH HURRAH for any ex bat NOT laying and giving themselves a well earned rest from laying eggs. They have been pretty well forced to lay all their miserable lives until finding their happy retirement family/homes.

I wish so much that they would ALL stop!

replenish their energy and use it for keeping warm and growing strong bones.

I think the secret to a long retirement(life) is simply to stop laying eggs from what I have read from posts with oldies! :)
