welovemarmite
We got four hybrids at the end of September and are looking to get two more chickens in spring. No idea whether to go for hybrids or pure breds. Any suggestions of good ones to go for? We have Tikka - columbian blacktail Bhoon - Bluebelle Balti - Black Star Madras - Speckled Star and they all live together in attached to a large avaries 4 u walk in run
Cinnamon
Maybe something that lays a coloured egg would be nice? Whitestars - Hybrid - HUGE purest white eggs, but a bit of a flighty hen (I adore this in them, they are characters) Welsummer - Pure breed - deep conker brown eggs,& really pretty hens Columbine/Jasmine - Hybrids - blue or green eggs 60% of the time - very pretty hens, but again can be flighty Cream Legbar - pure breed - blue eggs, & very pretty hen I can speak from experience with all of there,as I have at least one of each One thing to bear in mind is that pure breds will stop laying over the winter. Happ shopping!
Laura & CTB
I would say whitestar too - they have the most amazingly floppy combs. Stella makes me smile every time I see her running up the garden, comb flapping up and down! Have fun choosing!
welovemarmite
Thanks - i had been eyeing up the wellsummer. Hubbie isn't keen on white hens but as they are mine then he might not get a choice. I also quite like the look of an appenzeller....anyone know anything about these?
