docsquid
The time has come to replace my 17 year old cooker. We only have electricity available (no gas in the kitchen) and it has to be a regular 600mm wide cooker, we don't have room for a range. The existing one is good - it has halogen hobs and solar grill - but the main oven has really lost all control over its temperature which makes baking interesting Does anybody have a new-ish electric cooker that you could recommend. I like the halogen hobs and I like the solar grill. Must have a fan oven. Doesn't necessarily have to be cheap, just good, reliable and in particular with a controllable oven! TAJ
I have recently bought a Cannon 'mini-range' cooker in cream (it comes in other colours). It is 60cm, with solar grill, all electric, self-cleaning panels and has highly sophisticated oven functions (if you want to use them) You just turn the k"Ooops, word censored!" to the thing you are doing roasting meat, poultry, baking a cake, baking fish, proving dough, etc and it sets temp for you e.g. for roasting it will set a higher temp initial to seal meat and then reduce it down - some cycles use the fan oven, others the traditional elements and some (such as fish) uses both the fane and pulsing the top element to keep it moist. Or you can just chose traditional on fan oven and set the temp yourself. I found it cheapest here: http://www.kitchenscience.co.uk Tracy
chickenanne
I have a rangemaster, which I LOVE. They've started doing them in 60cm wide as well. The one I got is all electric, is A rated, and I would completely recommend except.... it was expensive

docsquid
Thanks for the recommendations, folks. Please keep them coming. I couldn't find the 60cm Rangemaster - they do built-in ovens in this size, but not a complete cooker, which is what I need. The Cannon looks very good. Has anybody got an AEG? chelsea
When we first got married we bought a second hand Belling. It was a few years old and a very good cooker (ceramic hob). We got rid of it only a couple of years ago when we had a new kitchen so it served the previous owners and us very well.
whoopsie
I spent a long time choosing my cooker as did my mum - she spent 30 years looking for the right replacaments! We both went for Smeg duel fuel - gas hobs so you can always cook even if there's a power cut, and electric oven. Mum has the big range style one with and I have 70cm one (but they do 60cm too). It's been a REALLY good investment especially since Mum got hers on Ebay as an ex-display!!! Mine was a 'second' too so I saved a bit of money there. Worth looking for bargains!!!! Really recommend the brand
docsquid
I have looked at Smeg and that is on the shortlist. We can't have dual fuel because we don't have a gas supply in our kitchen, but they do an all-electric model too. So long as the oven works properly, it will be a massive improvement on our wildly uncontrollable Creda oven. The Creda halogen hob is excellent, and I suspect I won't find its like elsewhere. whoopsie
Yep the Smeg electric models are good too - Mum and I just like gas hobs! The ovens are also a lot easier to clean than a lot of the others, with no sharp edges inside. Trust me, my mother is VERY picky about her cooker!!!!!
