Having bought a PS3 for the family Christmas pressie yesterday I need to get us some films. Have got Band of Brothers down on my list, especially as it's cheap at the moment, but what else would you suggest. Ta

Depends what type of film you like

 

Haven't had my Blu Ray player long so only have half a dozen or so yet and am resisting the urge to replace my DVD collecton (300 odd so that won't be cheap ) with a few exceptions but I am now only buying Blu Ray.

 

Amazon seem to be quite good and have 2 for £14 pounds on selected films and there are usually comments on the transfer quality in the reviews.

 

Newer films tend to trasnsfer better to Hi-Def than older ones although that is a big generalization(sp?). I have the Matrix Trilogy which works well, 300, which Chickvic loves in Hi-Def, Highlander, which doesn't seem that much different, Transformers which works very well, watched it on split screen with an upscaled DVD version just to prove to Chickvic that Blu Ray was much better .

Thanks chickric, good to read your comments. It also sounds like we own a similar amount of films to you. Will check out Amazon as I've only looked at Play so far.

We only just got our Blu-ray player. We have invested in some of the BBC wildlife series including Yellowstone, Life and Planet Earth. We wanted to see those in HD, but didn't have the set-up when they were shown.

 

We watched Yellowstone a couple of nights ago and it was absolutely unbelievable. If your family like any of the wildlife films I'd definitely recommend it. BBC are doing a special deal of Life and Planet Earth series.

Ooh, will have to check out the blu ray offerings from the BBC. Mind you I have just spent £55 on David Attenborough The Life Collection as DH has been lusting after that for ages and he doesn't know he's getting it as previously it's been too dear.

Hubby says the Spiderman films and Transformers

 

I would say "action" films myself - Saving Private Ryan (not suitable for little'uns), The Day After Tomorrow, Gladiator,

 

If you like adult horror - Alien trilogy, 30 days of night (vampires!) would be good also.

 

I probably could think of loads more but mind has gone blank - I may come back to this!

I should edit my other post as DH had seen the email confirmation so he now knows about the Dvaid Attenborough collection

 

My must have would be LOTR if that ever comes out on blu ray.

LOTR was scheduled for this year but has been put back till next year, prob March and then initialy only the theatrical release not the extended edition

I know, it's disgusting, they will release the short version only so people will buy that one, then a few months later the extended version which everyone wants so people will have to shell out for it again I for one will make do with the dvds untill the extended versions are released on blu ray
