Lavenders_Blue
Poor Rosie has developed a cold/sniffles. She's been sneezing a little for a few days but today she did a great honk of a sneeze, bless her. Her nostrils look clear and I can't hear any rattly/laboured breathing so I am ruling out anything serious for now. I am ready and prepared with citricidal for the water, but need to know how much I should give (i.e. how many drops in how much water?) and how long do I give the medication for? As it's herbal I assume dosage amounts and times are not quite so fixed, within reason of course? The poor hens will be all medicated up as I just started a course of flubenvet too. Lets hope after a week or so they will be back to full strength. I put loads of extra bedding in their coop tonight so if nothing else they should be snuggly and warm in all this snow we are forecast. Debb11
Hi, I'm new to all this but i use Citricidal regular and i mix it a few drops two roughly because it's thick stuff to 1 pint of water. I first bought and used mine when when i had just got my Goldtops and Popcorn had a runny beak the day after i go her, with in a few days of using it , her runny beak had cleared and i also used it my my now dead cockerel when he had a really croaky crow, i hope that helps? Judy (bantam) Popcorn (goldtop) Buttercup (goldtop)
Jools
It's possible she have a bit of a dust allergy - what bedding do you use?
Lavenders_Blue
Thanks for the help, I added 3 drops to a pint of water this morning. I'll see how we go. Jools - I use wood shavings that do claim to be 'dust extracted' so it's hopefully not a bedding issue, but I will perhaps investigate if the citricidal doesn't do the trick. Jools
I only mention it because I had a bantam on antibiotics for sneezing and snuffling and after two courses that made no difference whatsoever, the vet and I came to the conclusion it was the bedding causing it. I'd just acquired her and she just wasn't used the the aubiose I was using - sometimes it's a bit dustier than others.
Lavenders_Blue
It's worth keeping in mind - if she doesn't improve I'll have a think about changing the bedding, although it's the same stuff I've been using since I got them 2 months ago.
