jayjay
Temperatures are predicted to be -18 here tonight. I have loads of straw in the duck house, the floor is lined too - will they be ok or is there anything else I should do? Brrrrrrrr....... Lesley
I really don't know - it sounds as if the straw should protect them. You could try asking on the Practical Poultry forum as there will be more duck keepers on there.....hopefully some with the same problem. tom123
How big is your coop? My calls were in a 2ftx2ft coop however I have just moved them into a small broody coop 1ftx1ft to keep the heat in with loads of straw. Tom
jayjay
I would say the coop is 2' x 2' and with about 1' of straw. It's only about -6 at the moment so I am hoping it won't go much lower. JJ
tom123
How many ducks have you got? 2 wasn't it? If so thats fine and they will be perfectly OK.
jayjay
Thanks - just wanted some re-assurance. It's started to blizzard now so thinking the temp has gone up a wee bit. Typical Scottish weather! JJ
jayjay
Bill and Daffers have had a cold week of it. It's been an average of -6 here during the day and goodness knows how cold at night. Everything is frozen. Luckily with being on holiday we can change their water and add some warm to their pool. They have been doing well but yesterday I noticed that Daffers keeps sitting down. She seems to be walking ok but when she gets somewhere she sits, even after a few steps. Is she just trying to keep her feet warm or could this be something else?
