Morrisons have half size fresh sweetcorn cobs at £1 for 4. I actually prefer the half size to whole cobs as the girls have to be more innovative to get at one when I hang it on a BBQ skewer from the top of their open run. They can just reach the bottom few rows of niblets at a stretch.

 

I purposely positioned it yesterday near their perch 'gym' to see how long it would take them to realise that if they stand on a perch they could reach it.

 

They had about 90 mins of daylight with the half cob yesterday and they were jumping up for it, watching it sway by all three moving their heads in time to the movement of it (I thought at one stage I would have hypnotised chooks) and then jumping up but sort of opening and closing their legs to get them extra height.

 

As only the bottom half rows was eaten we had the same this morning - until Rita (who I always thought was the world's thickest hen) jumped up on the perch and started gobbling away - but them she is possibley the world's greediest hen so may think with her belly! She still has to stretch a bit to reach it and caused up roar by headbutting it smack bang into Grace's face - who promptly went potty.

 

Joy has now joined Rita on the perch but jumps off to launch herself on the corn, mouth wide open hoping to pull a bit off as she flops past.

 

As I look out now, Grace is trying to jump up from the floor with one leg stuck out and bent at the knee style.

 

So for just 25p they have had 3 1/2 hours of hentertainment and I reckon there is a good hour left in the odd few niblets left on the cob.
