Wantchooks
....... without any extra free ranging? I have tried to google this and am coming up with different answers, ie in a coop and nesting space... But what is a reasonable square foot space to allow per chicken if they are going to stay in the run and not free range? Answers please! Redwing
At least a square metre each pref more Thats per standard size hen, bantams you can allow less
Wantchooks
So working in pints that would be about 10sq ft per chicken? So for 4 chooks 8x8 would be ok but 8x12 would be even better? DH was laying slabs today and I have now decided that I would like my cube outside the run instead of in, and we are trying to decide if we can downsize the run or if DH needs to clear more ground and lay more slabs....... Redwing
yes 8x8 is fine, just dont get addicted to chickens and want to add more like the rest of us!
Wantchooks
thats what I am afraid of.....and fear I might need to expand in advance!
PhilipCaldwell
i have a standard eglu run with 1 extension, will this be big enough for 4 chooks??
Redwing
I had 4 in the same set up PC but although they did ok it was a bit of a squeeze and we had a feather pecking problem, I thought it was acceptable until they went in to a bigger run and were noticably far happier
sandyhas3chucks
ditto. except that due to a bullying problem it was halved during day time. WIR, more space MUCH happier girls. tho 4 friends could have coped. Much as you can give them really
PhilipCaldwell
right ho then, i think i will buy another extension, i have enough space to extend so its not a problem.Looking forward to gettin Edith some company, however she seems to be enjoying having no competition for mealworms sweetcorn and grapes
Wantchooks
Going for the 12x8 just to make sure
Redwing
And so it begins......
Wantchooks
I can't wait for it to begin! Once the earth unfreezes so DH can lay the slabs for the run so the run can go up and the chooks arrive but before that I need omlet to sort out my problem cube...... But it all looks in hand so I am optimistic! Only thing then I will have to rename myself I spose
