Calcium for helping contractions .a bit of an emergency

Recommended Posts

Hi All posting for a friend, the tempory vet thinks she broke an egg. Prob a softee but, had not calcium to give friend. I have a few pinches of nutrabol and plenty of shell max and she is arriving soon to pick it up. (my Nutrabol trasnsport allowing is due tommorrow on a next day delivery, so only had a very little to share!

Is the dose 1 pinch per kg animal and 0.2 ml per litre (approx) ok for this purpose or should more be given as specifically for helping with contraction. (this Vet had to phone Libby at Retfords for advice!!!!!) :(

Am not hugely knowledgeable regarding oral calcium in this situation. I would have thought that the take up would be a little slow to be helpful orally. Injectable calcium would be better. Of course this is something that the vet would have to do. Good luck :)

One of my girls needed injectible calcium once - first dose from the vet and they gave me a couple of syringes with doses to be getting on with. Worked a treat. AS CM said, the oral version doesn't work quickly enough.
