Smart Feeder - Light sensor values

I have a pre-existing single storey extension on the back of my house and it would b every handy to build on another storey. Obviously planning permission would be needed but before I start that process I was wondering how I find out if the existing extension is strong enough to build another level on top ?

You need to either get a builder in to have a look,ask the person who drew up the plans or ask a building inspector.

 

Hubby says that even if it was built with a view to never having an additional storey added later, it may be able to be reinforced to support that extra layer.

I believe it has a lot to do with the 'footings' under the existing structure.

 

Ours don't do down far enough under our garage so we would have to demolish and start again or underpin or something like that.

 

I'm sure someone in the building trade would be able to help you.

Have a look at your local authority website, planning section, with regards to planning laws, there have been changes to permitted development and other planning legislation in the past few months. Look for the planning portal.

Thanks Claire that looks a useful link as well. I've smuggly informed OH that I now know what we need to do to check whether a 2nd storey extension is technically possible thanks to this forum
