AnnieP
For Christmas, my mother bought me a "German Friendship Cake". I remember these from childhood: a neighbour gave us ours, and you add ingredients to the base they give you over a period of days and watch the thing "grow". Then you take out a cupfull, pass it on (or keep it) and bake the rest into a cake. Had great fun with it, and have passed it on. My OH says when he was at boarding school, his set of chums got in terrible trouble because they were eventually caught brewing alcoholic ginger beer with a "ginger beer plant". He says they ran the local supermarket out of sugar and were forced to eat jars of jam and marmalade at an alarming rate becuase they needed the jars! Have had a quick look on the internet and there they are, still, and am thinking of getting him one for a little fun present: However, I do not want to be overrun like something from the day of the triffids! Anybody else remember these things? Would I need a white lab coat and mad hair to be successful at this? A link for how you do it is here http://www.ciao.co.uk/Recipes_for_Drinks__Review_5304848
