Raina
Hi all, Orakiah laid an egg this morning and Lady Lay went strait into the nest box and wouldn't shift,i thought she had gone broody, so i turfed her out of the nest box and took the egg out and an hour later she was in there again and had laid an egg, so just as i was trying to get it she puffed out and started to growl so i backed off but was still watching her, she then stood up pecked at the egg and the went back into the run. My other Hen Orakiah has never done this so i'm wondering if it's normal?
chelsea
She probably just didn't like being interrupted at the crucial moment! Either that or she is about to go broody.....just keep an eye on her if she is taking her time in the nestbox - she might be enjoying sitting on the egg longer than she should be! Raina
I think it might be the broody bit then. She's normally a lovely hen,i once picked her up just as she was laying an egg and she didn't seem to mind (she was hiding under a table at our old house)She even goes to sleep while you're rubbing Vaseline of her comb. Oh and She's Normally a loud chicken but the past few Mornings/Days She's been REALLY loud could that have anything to do with it? (She screams like a Banshee when she hears one of the neighbours Cockerels )
