sandyhas3chucks
Sandy, they are planning to move but are not there yet. Example I recall last time I checked was the the mayonnaise they use in their sandwiches. Appreciate they are getting round to it but if you read their website it doesn't say it, therefore they don't do it. A PR'able statement like that would be shouted from the rooftops. One think the Hugh/ Jamie thing taught me is that supermarkets rely on a certain amount of assumption on the part of the shopper. Tesco putting pictures of gorgeous fields and sunshine on a chicken that never saw any of that being the most extreme. Am not saying they are all as bad as that (and I won't touch Tesco on principle) but good idea to check. Well, off I went today, checked many own brands AND the sandwiches, I could ONLY find FR eggs AND spoke to the manager again. ALL Waitrose OWN brand use ONLY free range eggs

Henhathnofury
I shop at Waitrose mostly because of their animal welfare record. I think they were the first to only have free range eggs. It just makes me feel happier to shop at someone that seems to care. Also in all the snow and ice, when they could not deliver to an elderly friend of mine, I was just going to try and do it for her - when a member of Waitrose struggled up with a bag of essentials for her. No charge. So they have my double vote!
emchook
Well done Waitrose !!
docsquid
I understand they only have British pork in their own products too. We use Waitrose (via Ocado) for their animal welfare record, and also what we have heard about their generally better methods of working with farmers than other supermarkets. Olly
You are right about the pork - except foreign meat products like prosciutto and salami, they only use British pork, which is produced with much higher standards than foreign pork. Not free-range, needless to say, but much better than the imported meat which is in a lot of other products.
