No eggs since November

Recommended Posts

Our 4 chickens will be a year old in May, we have had eggs every day since about July until November but now nothing.

We have cleaned eglu cube out, have powdered them for mites, checked for everything, not eating them, dont come out of run so no eggs in garden.

Is it just due to it being so cold perhaps?

I think everyone's noticed a decrease in supply this Winter. It has been very cold and we've got a couple of moulters here and some pure breeds who take a winter break :notalk:

They sound healthy and you've checked them over, and I am sure when the first signs of Spring are here they will be laying :D

Have they been wormed? If not a course of worming might help.

I agree, it's the time of year - cold and low light levels. Korma usually lays like a little trouper but has had several days off during the last two months, and Tikka stopped laying altogether, when she lost most of her feathers, for over two months. We're up to an egg every other day at the moment and hoping that will improve as weather/light gets better. :)

Are yours loosing feathers at all, as that can lead them to stop laying as their energy goes to make new feathers. Also are they eating well? Plenty of layers pellets and not too many treats! :(

We're eggless too - well we've had about 3 eggs (from 1 out of 3 chooks) since Christmas. I have noticed that Winnie (the one who's laid the eggs) has been producing a number of softies though. Would this be normal coming up to laying again?

The other 2 are still mid moult, so I don't expect anything from them for a while.

My remaining two hens were laying until November, when I got the WIR - coincidence, I'm sure, but they rewarded my generosity by both going into a full moult and I haven't had an egg since. It's the first time in nearly 3 years that I haven't had eggs, and I was taken by surprise because my Omlet gingernuts laid right through the first two winters.

Around Valentine's day is usually the time when you can expect to get eggs again, I'm told - it's mainly to do with the length of the days. Look on it as your chooks having a bit of a holiday - if they're not laying, then there's no risk of stuck eggs or problems with the egg-laying tackle. You'll know when they're ready to lay again as they'll be eating more and their combs will go bright red.
