hels189
Hello All First post here so please bear with me. We got our 4 girls (?) back in November. We got 2 Light Sussex (1yr old) and 2 Blue Leghorns (16 poss 18 wks). The light sussex had laid already before we got them. We had 2 eggs within the first week and now we seemed to have stopped! Anyways my question is, the blue Leghorns Madge and Tinkerbell have been growing nicely but Tinkerbell seems to be bigger than Madge and Tinkerbells crown is alot redder and brighter than the Madges. Also Mrs Mangle, Esmay & Madge all go in their coop and Tinkerbell stands guard outside. Tinkerbell also seems like she/he is chasing the Madge, she/he is very flighty and flapps their wings alot. Starting to think Tinkerbell might be a Thomas! Haven't heard any crowing is their any other way I can find out other than the turning them upside down and doing the obvious! LOL Thanks for any help you can give me.
Redwing
Hi and welcome You can turn them upside down all you like and all you will get is funny looks, there is no way to tell 'down there' Leghorns should be pretty easy to sex, do you have any pics? The redder comb wtc could just mean that one is closer to laying than the other, the head girl will also take up watch and be the last in/first out of the coop normally so there is no way to be sure other than to post a pic and have us all have a stab at what we think it is or wait for an egg or a crow! tom123
By 18 weeks a Leghorn boy would be obvious any way as they are reasonably quick to mature. Here is a picture of a young Leghorn lad... He has big curved tail feathers that wouldn't be present in a hen. As Redwing said, it could just be that the he/she is older and ready to lay eggs soon
Griffin
My Leghorn boys were crowing by 17 weeks with very red head gear much earlier than that.

Hopefully it might just be a sign of an egg coming soon have 2 very impatient children waiting here LOL! And one hubby who says they have eaten one sack of food and still not given us eggs!
