iandjsmum
Hi Has anyone got any good ideas for a simple, temporary chicken house? Has anyone considered turning a compost bin into one?! I've noticed it has a perfect little opening.... Any ideas much appreciated.
Falkor
It has been done I believe on the "other" forum but i would have reservations myself. Too cold in winter and too warm in summer - I spose it would depend on how temporary.
Redwing
I wouldnt use one personally, apart from not having a floor it would be cold in the winter and warm in the summer I might be tempeted to use one without a door as a shelter or dustbath in a run In the summer a cat carrier makes a good temporary house, in the winter or summer a rabbit hutch is a good bet and they can be picked up quite cheaply on ebay
Henhathnofury
I used a cat carrier as a temporary sleeping area (within the walk in run, because it would not be safe against a fox/cat attack) in for a sick chook in the summer.
Egluntyne
I might be tempeted to use one without a door as a shelter or dustbath in a run Absolute genius. Now I know what to do with my doorless compost bin. I shall transform it into a covered dustbath. I wouldn't use one as anything more than very temporary accommodation for all the reasons stated. Plus they are not terribly robust, and a determined predator wouldn't find it too much of a challenge.
