We would like to do a "holiday of a lifetime" with our 4 children but want to do a volunteering/ project-based holiday to combine it with some sightseeing.

 

I know it sounds rather worthy but think the kids (who will be 9-18) will remember more if they have contributed in some way rather than just being tourists.

 

Does anyone have any experience of this? Have looked at a few websites but recommendations always more encouraging!

Thats the sort of thing my kids are doing with school - have a look at world challenge and camps international though there are a lot out there................

Actually, having looked again you have to be over 15 for either companies volunteering holidays

Hi Jayne, thanks for that - yes my daughters are doing world challenge with school which is fabulous.

 

There are a few companies with family centred activities and the minimum age varies. Will keep hunting!

Ooooh where are they off to Ali? DD is off to India in Junewith WC, DS off to Kenya the following summer with CI - I would love to do that but i'm not a good flyer these days so we are just off to northumberland. Would be a fantastic family holiday though- one they would remember for a liftetime!

ED is off to Argentina in summer 2011 and next one down is off to South Africa i 2010...aren't they lucky?

 

Will let you know how I get on in my research. GVI looks the best so far....
