jayjay
OK a new topic for the forum! It's that dreaded time of year for me - the holidays are looming and I have to go and sun myself somewhere hot . I have ordered a large WIR and a nice person to check on the duckies. I have lots of worries:- - How much checking do they need? - Do they have to be put to bed every night and let out every morning or could they survive a week of doing their own thing? - Could they be kept in the WIR for a week without any FR? Any advice would be gratefully received . JJ
Lewis
It depends when you're going ... - How much checking do they need? Once a day will be fine, just make sure they have food and water. - Do they have to be put to bed every night and let out every morning or could they survive a week of doing their own thing? Our chickens are fine being left open in the WIR, imagine the ducks will be ok If its really cold, maybe shut them away. - Could they be kept in the WIR for a week without any FR? They should be fine, its only a week.
jayjay
Cheers Lewis We are planning away at the beginning of April so weather should be much better by then. I was thinking of getting someone to come feed them and fill up water dishes when they come to feed the cat each morning. The plan was to leave them in their WIR with house door open and 2 'pools' just for the week. Is there anything else I should do? JJ
Guest
Once a day (twice would be ideal) BUT food /water/ shelter and if they are better off for their own safety ie Mr Fox I would keep them shut in their wir for a week to be safe. Also if they are in a run whoever looks after them will have less problems shutting them away etc every evening. What you suggest sounds ideal. As long as fox cant get them Enjoy your holiday indie
jayjay
Thanks Feeling much better about going away now. I have been constructing a mastr plan - life used to be easy! We are lucky here that we don't have Mr Fox in the area (as far as I know - never seen sight nor sign of one) but would hate for duckies to wander and have ma and pa searching the countryside for them! WIR with pools it is - and maybe some special wriggly treats!
