Sewing machine advice......... again.......

Recommended Posts

My step-daughter popped round yesterday & enquired if I had a sewing machine...yes...that she could borrow at some point..........er why............to see if she likes sewing........err maybe, how about buying one off ebay & upgrade if she does like it..............ok, can you look Sha, you know what to look for.....flattery got me looking of course, though knowing what I'm looking for is another matter

Are the little Janome's like this (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110486779542&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT) any good for a "tester", I have no doubt that if DSD didn't like it or upgraded then DS or DD would adopt it

Also this one looks good to me.... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320480261541&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT though it'll probably go sky-high or be a white elephant knowing my luck

I've got about 10 I'm watching at the mo, DSD thinks I'm watching all the machines that I would like with a view to upgrading mine..................

Advice as always welcomed............

I can recommend one of those little Jenome machines. That's how I got started. I bought a Jenome Sew Mini for £30 off eBay, I didn't want to spend a lot of money incase I didn't get on with the whole sewing thing. I have recently upgraded to another Jenome sewing machine. LMW now uses my mini sewing machine.

The mini sewing machine is fairly basic in that the range of stitches is very limited but it sews beautifully and is dead easy to use. There's also tutorials on how to set it up on You Tube. It will sew most medium/light weight fabrics (including cotton to fleece to make patchwork snugglies).

Hope this is of help.

Thank you that is very helpful, I can't see her wanting to sew huge expansive curtains or anything too heavy, so to start with I might just grab her one of those........if this "bidding" one goes above £20 or so I can go back to the B/N one & get one for £30 as you say, there were quite a few on there when I was searching on Sunday night.

If it's any help the eBay buyer I got my mini machine off is Pandoras Upholstery. They were very quick to send it out, the model they are showing is a different model but the price is much the same and if I recall correctly the machine was delivered by a courier company and the postage wasn't far short of £7.99.

You could also try Sew Creative ( the shop where I got my new machine - lovely helpful staff) they are doing free UK delivery....I know they stock the mini machine but don't list it on the site.
