Space Chick
Hi All, As some of you know I have recently acquired a which I want to use for hatching. I don't think the Eglu run is really big enough once the chicks start growing, so I am considering a WIR type of thing, but something that could be used for other things, if I decide I don't want to do more hatching. I hope I am making sense. I have seen these.... http://www.weld-mesh.com/aviary.htm They have the large bird and small bird versions, but also this could be used as a secure veg bed/fruit cage if I decided I didn't want to keep it as a WIR. The large bird has 2" x 1" mesh and the small has 1" x 1/2" mesh. The large would be better as gives more size option, but would this mesh be too big? Also any thoughts on whether it would be safe/secure enough, and also what I could use as a temporary roof? Thanks Omleteers
shelley8179
This looks really good, I like the idea that if you want to add panels later you can, and the shade netting looks really good too. Going to price it up to see how much it would cost me compared to a wood run as it will last a lot longer too.
Redwing
Yes the mesh is big for chicks really but the sturdy mesh of the run will keep foxy out so all you want to do is stop the chicks sticking their heads/wings/legs through to be whipped off by a passing cat! I would get the larger then buy a cheap roll of the smallest mesh chicken wire you can find and add that to the bottom couple of feet, attach with cable ties and it can always be removed later
