kerryegg
Thought I would like to share my tale. Following a problem with rats under the eglu we decided to dispense with the eglu run inside the WIR and put the eglu on a metal platform with ladder acess. Both chickens watched all day as we did this, including removing the run door and part of the wire fence to get the platform in and were persuaded to climb the ladder tempted by bread. However as night fell they started walking round and round the run and eventually wedged themselves under the pampas grass in the run. With great difficulty and a severe pecking I managed to extract them and put them in the eglu. I then had a sleepless night and even thought they may be dead of shock in the morning. I let them out as soon as it was light, both fine and then suggested to my husband that we would have to remove the platform, which would have to stay in the run as he wouldn't take down the door and fence again, and build a brick base for the eglu. The rats live in my neighbours hedge so little chance of them moving on. While we were arguing, I think my husband would have preferred to change the chickens than the run, we noticed them walking up and down the ladder and one layed an egg in the nesting box. Last night up the wooden hill to bed at dusk and another egg this morning. Their run looks great and my husband has used the original Omlet cover to make a covered corner in the run. Sorry I can't do pics but it looks great and they have so much more room.
