Chicken boarders

I've had my ex battery girls for 8 months now and to our shock two have died within 2 days this week. One was always a bit weak so I wasn't too concerned but another died yesterday during the night and i'm really concerned about my parenting abilities!

 

They were wormed about 5 months ago and both went quickly. They were ok in the morning but gradually declined during the day and passed away in their sleep.

 

Is there anything that I should be watching out for? I can't see any evidence of mites so am not sure why this has happened.

 

They do sleep in the nesting box which I didn't allow in the summer but in the winter it seemed so cosy for them I didn't want to move them. I can't clean it out as often as I like - but could that have been a cause?

 

I've only one left now so I want to make sure she is ok and get her a new family asap.

Claire, I'm sure you're not doing anything wrong, it's just what happens sometimes with exbatts. Check my sig and you'll see how we lost some of ours in rapid succession. Sorry to read about your girls

Claire, I'd get two more if I were you. Have you got somewhere else for them to sleep whilst you're introducing them.

I am sure you are doing nothing wrong

We too lost ex batts in quick succession and I know exactly how you are feeling.

 

Whatever happens, even one day of freedom is better than dying as they would have done.

Popster I worm every 3 months, it is not red mite or anything like that in the coop?

 

Having 6 ex batts it is a worry, they have worked so hard it can just be tired wee souls
