Old Speckled Hen
Does anybody know how well these grow Oooooop North, if at all? Does anybody grow these north of Watford? Thanks xx
Charlottechicken
I bought one early last year from Aldi, then moved it a couple of months later (when I moved the WIR) It appeared to be OK at first with green buds appearing, but died later in the year. Probably the move that killed it! I'd like another, and the Aldi/Lidl trees are great if you are on a budget as they are only around £4, so if you want to try something a bit exotic they are worth a trial. Edited to add: I've just looked on the Aldi site and they have cherry trees for sale this Thursday for £3.99 (it doesn't say what type though) Oh, and the birds love them
Couperwife
we have a cherry tree, dont know if its morello cherry though the fruit is a bit bitter are they morello? anyway, ours grows fine and we are about 5 mins walk from the North sea, so its cold and windy here, dont see why it wont grow up near you. we have never got any fruit off ours , the birds always get there first and strip a rather heavily laiden tree in a matter of hours cathy x
Charlottechicken
we have a cherry tree, dont know if its morello cherry though the fruit is a bit bitter are they morello? From what I've read about Morello cherries that sounds right, I think they have to be cooked to be palatable (to humans) ?
Lesley
We're north of Watford and we have a Morello! - it produced a small crop last year.
Old Speckled Hen
Thanks everybody. I had one in my Middlesex garden and used to get lots of fruit on it. I love cooking with Morellos so will give it a go. Homebase has a 4ft tree for £5.
