Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

Hello ,

so as most of you know last week I got a pair of polish ... Well the women I bought her off said not to get them wet ... But ... I have just bought a coop for them with no protection from the rain and I put them in it today and went out . When I got home it hade been raining and the pair are soaked ! Oopss ... Do you think they will be ok ?

I have a flock of 9 Polands. They have a thinner skull than some other breeds so it's not good for them to have a soaking wet crest in very cold weather. Most of mine free range all day but they have plenty of areas for shelter.

 

So yes, try to keep it dry - but not obsessively so.

PS bring them in and dry them with a hairdryer today then get a cover for the coop.

umm I dont understand why you put them in the coop with no protection when you had already been given advice not to get them wet? Did you research the breed before you bought them?

I don't think ANY chickens like getting wet - admittedly mine will sometimes free-range in the pouring rain, but generally they hate wet more than cold. Can you cover the coop with something like a clear shower-curtain (Ikea, less than £1!) or similar? They definitely need a dry area to shelter in, whatever the breed.
