Smiler33
Went and let the chickens out this morning (looking very glamorous in my PJs, dressing gown, coat and boots!) and it was all very peaceful. Opened the Cube door and there was Tikka looking all 'and what time do you call this', she jumped out first followed by Peckish, Betsy and Mabel. This seems to be their pecking order. They've had a drink and some pellets (apart from Mabel who is being chased off by Peckish, but there's plenty out). They're pecking around the grass looking quite happy. We're going to put the wood chips down this morning - we could only get the soft wood chips from B&Q in a fetching shade of red, but I'm sure they'll be fine. We'll put some edging around too to stop it going all over the place. Is it best to give them pellets in the morning and then put grain and any extras out in the afternoon, or doesn't it matter? Happy days
Egluntyne
It is best to leave their pellets out all day so that they can help themselves to them on an ad lib basis. Any extras, such as grains, will not be as nutritious, and are best given later in the day, and not overabundantly, or the hens will eat them in preference, and get fat. chelsea
Just to add the combination of wellies & pyjamas in the "chicken dash" are absolutely essential in chicken keeping - the brighter the colour the better just so your neighbours can spot you more easily. Smiler33
Oh yes, I have a wonderful multicoloured striped dressing gown (bit like Joseph's amazing technicolour dream coat) - bright orange, lime green, yellow, fuchsia, blue - all very impressive ! Ain't Nobody Here
Glad to hear it's all going well . Forget the photos of your girls, I think we need one of you in your chicken-dash dressing gown .
