New hens not going into Eglu Go Up

Snowflake, my little white silkie of fate (from preloved - do you remember? I also had Sandy the golden one) hadn't ever laid - or so we thought. Today whilst they were free ranging my hubby wondered where she was. Oh only sat under the broom bush on 8 of her own eggs! The little monkey!

It's a shame we are going on holiday, as otherwise we would have let her have some eggs to sit on & hatch, as hubby wants to get the stocks up again & has plans for another enclosure & chook house ( hopefully an eglu go in yellow).

Chickens never cease to amaze me with their behaviour!

I'm hoping for a broody when we get back - I fancy some Appenzellers, polands, naked necks & seabrights. Shhhh I'll need more than an eglu go! Hmm I can see a good plan here!

Well yes it was & I felt guilty at not letting her sit on them. Funny thing was, she tootled off to bed in the eglu no problem at dusk & abandoned all the eggs. It must just be a daytime sitting & laying area. Thing is, some of the eggs must be over a week old & I'm not sure how many hours a day she has been sitting on them when out free ranging - so I have had to separate them from the ones I eat / sell.
