My daughter,who is 15,has been unwell since her DPT vaccination on Tuesday morning

She is nauseous,sleepy & really just not herself - in fact she can't go into school today & its her English mock exam

 

Has anyone elses child had a similar reaction to this vaccine - it seems a fair few of her classmates are off too

It isn't uncommon to get a very mild febrile reaction like this to an immunisation. It will pass without trouble within 48 hours.

 

Of course the thought of the exam could be helping it along a bit!

Well, we had the decision of either her going in today & having to sit the exam not feeling up to scratch,or keeping her home today & phoning her in sick,giving her the weekend to fully recover & her doing the second sitting on Monday morning.

No contest really

 

Why on earth they have a big vaccine programme the same week as the mocks is beyond me....or at least jab them all on a Friday to let them recover

Those who had to have the MMR too had jabs in both arms & were really sore for the wednesday exam

jabs normally give you a sore arm but its not uncommon to have mild feverish symptoms, after all your immune system thinks you're infected

My older DS was fine - in fact when he came home and said he'd had a vaccination, I said what for, don't remember a letter about it - apparantly it was ages ago and i'd forgotten At least it was between the science modules at the beg of the year and the next exams next week. Poor lad didn't get much sympathy either.

 

Hope she's feeling better soon.

My son was quite ill after his last half term and so were some of his friends - but it could have been a gastric flu thing as it was just the boys he hangs around with So we weren't sure in the enif it was the DPT or not

She is much perkier this afternoon,but I am still glad that she wasn't in school today
