Just wondered if anyone else had this problem..........

 

put lovely new soft straw in to the nesting box yesterday, came down this morning and they have thrown it all out through the roosting bars!!

yes thats normal, sometimes they even drag it out in to the run

 

Less seems to be more when it comes to nestbox bedding so dont make it too deep

 

I'm not sure what goes through their little heads to make them do this

I have a budding interior designer who likes nothing more than to toss out her straw, then walk off huffily (usually with a long bit stuck to her bum)

I line the droppings box with newspaper but the girls spend ages tugging it all out, shredding it as chucking it round the run. We have had words.

I have a little madam that does it to all the nest boxes bar the one she will lay her egg in eventually...after redecorating the others

Oooh! Mine do that too, when they are shut in the eglu and run, and not allowed out to free range. They pull out the newspaper that I line the eglu poo tray with, drag it out into the run, and then shred it. I think it is a sort of protest. they never do it if they are free to range.

Thanks guys, glad all seems to be quite normal!!

 

They did it when they had put themselves to bed and the Go was shut up. I let them out at just gone six in the morning, so hopefully it wasn't protesting of boredom

If it's any consolation, mine all used to do this and now don't, i think they've just got too lazy I'm sure they'll grow out of it, mine used to put the shredded paper on teir backs and then walk around with it. I think they must have been watching Gok and wanted to accessorise, darling
