Valkyrie
The runner bean bed from last year has been dug over, so has another small bed. And because it was lovely outside I dug one of the big beds that had potatoes in last year - and found a lovely medium to large one that we missed. One bed is still waterlogged so I won't be touching that just yet, but I feel great relief that after this winter I have actually made a start. Ain't Nobody Here
I was hoping to do something similar but we had another load of snow at the weekend . OH spotted loads of wood pigeons tucking into my purple sprouting broccoli so the only thing I've done is put netting and eglu run pieces over the plants. I haven't waited over 6 months for these darn plants to (hopefully) crop to let the birds get them all .
Valkyrie
You show them who's boss! Dratted pigeons - I sympathise there - inundated with the things! You have had rather a basinful (overflowing somewhat) your neck of the woods. It's still touch and go, but at least I will know it was done once! I think we are supposed to get another heavy frost tonight, so will break up a lot of our clay bits - and then the girls will compact it all again. They did a nice raking job for me though. cockadoodle1
Went down the allotment and lifted the sheets off the soil to try and dry it out a bit, also sprayed Round up on a particularly bad area of couch grass. Hopefully this week will stay dry and I can get the potato bed finished off and start the onion bed. Oh Happy days
Valkyrie
Done another bed - the soil seems particularly easy to work - which it never has done in all the years we've been here. I'm wondering if all that grotty weather has helped to break down the clay. Every year we've put on compost from our own bins and topped up with other organic multi-purpose stuff, but I am so pleased with it all. The worms are very plentiful in every bed too.
