Apparently all this is news to the author, who presumably got his chickens thinking that they were the only animal on the planet that doesn't poo, or maybe thought they could be toilet-trained! It does sound as if she was after egg-production more than actually enjoying having hens though - artificial light to keep them laying. Some people just aren't suited to chook keeping......perhaps if she moved the coop away from the house she'd have less noise to contend with...just a thought........ patsylabrador Posted March 7, 2010 Share Posted March 7, 2010 I think it's good though to make sure people don't think keeping chickens is easy. I read lots that said how simple it was. I also read a lot of this forum before getting them to know to expect the unexpected. Keeping chickens is no easier than keeping any animal, and it's good for people to have a touch of the seconds before leaping blindly in. I love my chickens and I'm really glad I got them, but I do worry all the time that I'm looking after them properly. I think the article is a little bit of a reality check. Saronne x It is funny isn't, how we try and interpret a "tone" to these two or three line dittys Funny as well because I took the other view that he probably thought they were more bother than they were worth.
