Lots To Say And Ask

Recommended Posts

Hello ,

Well I have 3 new additions ... Boo The Black Orpington Bantam hen , Corn Flake The Silver Spangled Appenzeller hen and Lemon The Mille Fleur Pekin hen ! All loving there new home .

So as most of you know I am showing some of my chickens and my dad said I can only enter 3 so I have picked ... My frizzle pekin , orpington bantam and my appenzeller .

Today I have removed some broken and odd coloured feathers from them , vasalined all there legs then sprayed there feathers and legs with johnsons anti mite spay (just incase they have leg mite or mites) Oh and wormed them ...

So is there anything else I need to do ?

Also does vasaline and mite spray get rid of leg mite because I heard it does...

I done all this today to give feathers time to grow back because the show is only in may , haha .

Thanks

And I will post a big picture update on Sunday ...

Josh

Josh - I do hope you haven't removed very many broken/miscoloured feathers. It does hurt you know. And I'd be surprised if they grew back properly by May, at least on the orp. This is not the point of showing, and its NOT something to be encouraged.

Pulling broken and odd coloured feathers out isn't right Josh.

If they don't have the correct colouring them that's tough! If I went to buy a black bird then if she had any white feathers I wouldn't buy her. The whole point of showing is to show off your birds and your breeding, pulling feathers out is kind of cheating

They'll probably need a bath, definitely the Pekin due to her foot feathers.

:)
