poppy33
I am concerned about one of my chickens, she has watery diarrhoea and I have seen her go several times today, she is standing by the glug drinking lots, I guess this is to replace the fluids she is passing, she is standing up, slightly puffed up but definitly quieter than usual. I have wormed them all last week so she is on the last day of the flubenvet seven day treatment as I added it to her food, the only other thing I can think of is I have given her apples this week, that may make her runny but not quiet. I tried to find a feed merchant who sold Bokashi bran but have been unsuccessful. any ideas anyone, I am quite worried about her. many thanks Poppy
poppy33
I have just been out to check my chicken again and she has drunk so much water her crop is now large and feels like a large and watery bulge, am I looking in the wrong area? does she have impacted crop, would that give her diarrhoea? Christian
A large squishy crop could be sour crop details here It could just be that she has had too much to drink, due to her diarrhoea? The apples could have caused her upset tummy if she isn't used to them. The fact that she is hunched and not herself, would make me think that something is up. See how her crop is tomorrow and if no better, then maybe a trip to the vet? They sometimes drink lots to help cool down if they have a temperature. Omlet sell bokashi bran in the shop - https://www.omlet.co.uk/shop/shop.php?product_id=190 Good luck with her and hope she is better soon. Ain't Nobody Here
One of mine had a large squishy crop last year (like a large water balloon). It was sour crop . I followed the instructions Christian's linked to and she was right as rain in a day or so .
poppy33
Thanks for your replies, it does sound like it could be sour crop I am going to pop out and check her again late tonight. I will let you all know how she is doing. many thanks
Christian
Check first thing in the morning Poppy. Her crop should be empty, if it is still squishy, then probably sour crop.
poppy33
Thanks everyone for your replies. I went out last night very late to check her and she had come out of the house and was still standing at the glug drinking I went out first thing this morning and she was still drinking and had a large squishy water filled crop. As I am a veterinary nurse I took full advantage and phoned my boss ...on a suinday he very kindly looked at her. Her temp was 41 centigrade and she was still having diarrhoea, he thinks she has an infection, he said she is drinking and filling up because she has a temperature and infection, he did not think she had sour crop.Lottie has had a shot of Baytril, vit B and some Metacam and I have some shots of Baytril to give her at home over the next few days. fingers crossed she will soon be feeling better, poor girl .
