Hi,

 

Can anyone tell me how long to boil a bantam egg for? I like my yolks soft. I am new to chicken keeping and don't want to spoil my first lovely eggs!

 

Also does anyone know where I can get hold of some bantam sized egg cups?

I was looking for little egg cups also, i got some clay and moulded and painted mine.. not very attractive, but they will have to do.

i boil mine for 2 and a half - 3 mins.

Thanks Mollie, I have just collected my fourth from the so just about have enough for some brunch for myself and my hubby, I'm going to fry the first lot to be safe but I'll boil the next ones for sure.

 

I've found this website that sells bantam egg cups, a bit pricey at £8.50 each but they come with a spoon so I think I'll order some.

p.s. How many do you get from your bantams? One one of mine are laying so far but we've had four eggs in five days which isn't bad I think considering we've only just got them.

We have a lovely old egg cup which is reversable, small end for bantam eggs larger end for hens eggs

 

I would say about 2.5 minutes from a rolling boil depending how small they are if you like a nice soft egg, but you will have to experiment a bit. We had bantams when I was a child, they lay pretty well in the summer but stop in the winter and are very prone to broodiness
