anoushka3005
Hi everyone, I am new to this whole chicken keeping thing! I have got a classic Eglu with three lovely hens in who I collected today. The Eglu & run are on soil with aubiose on top - but the minute they went into the run they have been digging through the aubiose and into the soil - is this normal, or because they are new? Should I put slabs underneath, or more aubiose? I've read that people leave the aubiose a good few weeks before raking out, but mine chickens seem to be intent on digging it all up and I can't see it lasting? Thanks! Plum
Normal chooks dig all the time If its covered then it'll dry up and stop going muddy so guess as long as it's not sour let them get on with it.
Ain't Nobody Here
Welcome to the forum, Anouska . That sounds pretty normal to me . You could certainly put extra bedding in on top if you like but it's fine if the bedding gets mixed up with the soil (as long as it's all dry as Plum says). anoushka3005
Thank you! I'll top it up once I've got some edging boards tomorrow and leave them to it!
