jenjins1
I have noticed that when one of my hens was pooing, that she had quite a bare area around her vent. Today, about a couple of weeks from the last time i looked, the area is now much bigger. All five of them seem to be laying ok as usual. Does anyone have an idea what it could be. They all seem quite happy, although i will check the others bottoms later on. They does seem to a type of white fly that has appeared in their coop since the temperature has risen. The Dogmother
Check her over for lice and mites, check the housing (although they'd probably all have them if one is infested). My money is on a feather pecker; look in the FAQ section for some answers.
jenjins1
Thanks for your reply. i have just gone out to look at them now and its actually all her chest too. she looks as though she has lost some weight to me too. just given her some poultry drops with the pipette. when one of the other hens moulted, there were feathers everywhere within the coop and run but there doesnt seem to be feathers of hers around. the feather that are still there are very brittle and dry. i will check out the faq section...
