Shredder paper

Recommended Posts

I've had a quick search but can't see anything obvious that's been asked before.

I've been using shredded paper for the tray and nest box of the Eglu for over a year with no problems. However my shredder has packed in and nearly all the new ones only do "cross cut" shredding - so rather than nice long strips the machines almost dice the paper.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this? Does it work just as well or does it clog up ?

My main problem is that only the cheaper shredders do long strips [i.e. around £10-£15] and they look really flimsy.

I have always used shredded paper in my nest boxes. We have the cheapest shredder we could buy and it is still going after more than 2 years daily use. It cuts the paper into long bits (not cross shredded).

My kids have been reading the Haynes Chicken manual this weekend and it advises using cross shredded paper in nest boxes, advising against the long cut type. Unfortunately it doesn't say why :?
