Introducing new birds?

Recommended Posts

Hello.

I am new to chickens and while waiting for my Eglu, i am looking at which chickens i want and i think i am going to end up with single birds from different breeders as i like the idea of different coloured eggs.

Obviously i don't have any chickens at all yet, so i was just wondering how i might have to go about introducing three such birds?

Would it be ok to bring all three to their new home within a couple of days of each other or would they all need to come home on the same day and be put in their new home at the same time?

Could i bring one bird home and then maybe introduce the other two at the same time a week or two later?

Does it matter that they might vary a little in size, but not age?

I just don't want them to get hurt.

Thanks

If it were me I think I would get them all on the same day to avoid any problems. I think it you get a couple and then not get another one or two for a couple of weeks you might get problems as your original pair would have got settled/established. Getting them all at the same time regardless of where they came from means when you introduce them to their new home they are all on the "same level" and can sort out the pecking order amongst themselves together. :D
