Smiler33
Any advice for me here please? The chickens came with some Farmgate Layers Pellets which I don't like (not that I've tried them you understand ), so I'm giving them the Smallholder Range Layers Pellets. The problem is they won't touch them. I've done tough love and left it in with them whether they eat it or not, but now all the Farmgate Pellets are gone they're just not interested. Any ideas? kerryegg
Perhaps you could try adding water to make a mash and a few sultanas. My 3 new ones have moved from chick crumb to smallholder range layers pellets this way. The crumb from the breeders was like dust. I didn't fancy it and it blew all over the run. They are all laying. Good luck, you don't want eating disorder hens! Sorry I can't spell the A word.
Redwing
I dont blame you for changing Do tough love, no treats until they are happy with the new pellets, if you are softer than me you could buy one of the small bags of farmgate and mix that in to transfer them over but they will not starve themselves, they will eat eventually
Smiler33
Thanks - I'll stick to my guns and do tough love then. Little madams !
docsquid
Do stick to your guns. Mine got extremely spoiled over the winter and I wanted to get them back onto normal pellets. I stopped giving them their porridge (mashed up pellets with raisins and mealworms) a couple of weeks ago. I put a dry mix of pellets with a little corn and a few mealworms into their Grub instead. They looked at me as if I was mad for a couple of days, but then realised that they could dig around and get mealworms from the Grub. Initially they just picked out the tasty morsels, but now they are eating normal pellets. I also only put treats in the Grub now, so they come to associate the Grub with nice things. Do persevere. I was worried for a couple of days, but they soon get the hang of it.
Smiler33
Just thought I'd let you know that when I put them into their run just now they were going for the pellets. I think they've realised that that's it now - there won't be any little extras. Mean Mummy I am . Good day for us today as we got 4 eggs - well done The Girls
