horselovinginger
One of my chickens seems to have gone a bit red and raw on her underneath. I thought it might be the bedding as this particular hen always prefers to go on the straw overnight rather than the roosting bars, but has anyone got any ideas. I sprayed a little antibacterial spray on to see if that would help at all, but it doesn't seem to have made much difference. I just wondered if anyone else has the same problem, or any ideas on how I can make her feel a bit better. I thought sudocrem might help, but not sure if she'd ever talk to me again if I put sudocrem on her. Basically just along her breast bone but right toward the back, the area between her legs really, has just lost a few feathers and is looking a bit red. Any ideas would be fab. Thanks in advance! Redwing
Check her for lice or any other crawlies just in case but it probably is because she nestles rather than roosts, she probably gets a bit hot especially in straw Sudecreme may well help - it wont do any harm Changing the bedding to a more absorbant horse bedding such as Aubiose or Hemcore would probably help a bit
staceychristie
One of ours (the BOSS) looks oven ready underneath, but she's never had any other faults. I use Easibed, which is so much easier to look after as the poo sticks to it, and you can shovel it up very quickly. No ones pecking at her are they? Moulting? horselovinginger
I don't think she's being pecked at as she is best friends with the 'top chicken', and it's right underneath her where the feathers have gone. I thought about changing the bedding, recently I has started using shavings and straw mixed in together and that seems to have worked quite well, it even helped her to look a bit less sore, so may convert completely to shavings. Will check for mites and will probably put some powder down anyhow as a precaution. Many thanks!!
