l_ouise
Hello. I have just found a list of poisonous plants and it is much longer than a different one that i had found and i am concerned because even though i only have a couple of poisonous species - i have lots of plants. Daffodil and Rhododendron are rampant in my garden and in the surrounding areas. I was just wondering just how concerned i should be about it. I like to think that chickens won't gorge themselves on things that are poisonous, but i presume that isn't the case? How careful should i be and besides keeping the chickens confined or destroying half the garden - what precautions can i take? Oh - and while i'm asking about food - are beetles ok? I keep reptiles and have loads of live bugs such as waxworm, mealworm, locust, beetles, crickets etc Can chickens have these bugs and is there a limit as to how many they should get? Thanks
Ain't Nobody Here
I have rhododendrons in my girls' free range area and they pay no attention to them. The waxy leaves aren't very appetising anyway, I presume . I also have daffodils but they tend to stamp all over them rather than eat them . Re the bugs, I don't really know the answer but as they spend all their time looking for bugs and beasties I don't suppose it's a problem to feed them as long as it doesn't fill them up too much so they don't eat their pellets. mabelandflosmum
Mine have never eaten the daffodils, just rearranged them! They have eaten potatoes and rhubarb which are supposed to be poisonous but have come to no harm, I wouldn't worry too much.
