Sooo much pooping

hi all

sorry for all my questions again .

 

i got my ladys about a month ago and was told they were POL ive been lucky and ive had at least one egg everyday between the 4 of them in the last few days ive been getting 2 or 3 a day and thats great

but ive also been getting lots of softies at least one a day .i phoned the bloke i got them from and he told me that softies are quite normal when the hens are just starting to lay is that right ?

 

my question is i cleaned my cube out yesterday and today when i went out to get the eggs i had 3 eggs in the nesting box and 2 softies that had fell through the roosting bars ,i only have 4 hens is this normal?

will it be the same hen thats laying the softies ?

could she be laying 2 a day ?

or could one of the others be laying a proper egg and a softie in one day ?

 

sorry again for all the questions but you all seem to be chicken gurus lol

It's not uncommon and they may well settle into laying hard shells. If it persists you could give them limestone flour in their feed to try and harden up the shells. Do they have access to grit?

yes they have a tub of grit the other eggs are very firm and quite hard to crack ,they dont seem to have soft shells more no shell at all they look like white eggs till you pick them up and they are just wrapped in a membrane no shell if that makes sense

It's probably just taking them some time to get into the swing of things then .

sods law after posting yesterday i have 4 real eggs today one was a whopper at 71 grams i know thats nothing when i look at the large egg board but ive not had one over 50g before so i was very excited lol my big lad came running in shouting that it was huge bless him ,he couldnt wait to get it on the scales .
