Bless my heart warming ex batts

Recommended Posts

Well I picked up my ex batts Saturday, I got 4 and they arent in as awful condition as I thought, but still its awful  lack of feathers etc, and so unchicken like if that makes sense, and smaller then my hens that havent started to lay yet.

Its almost like they dont know how to be chickens! they dont know to go to bed, and seem to be learning to s"Ooops, word censored!" about nicely  but even after all the hell these little girls have been though...................after one night and less then 20 hours in my care............I got an egg !eggcream! .............my first egg after having my 5 other girls for 9 weeks and had nothing LOL

My neighbours must think I am more mad now, as at 9am this morning I was shouting look at my egg like I was holding a winning Lotto ticket LOL, they already call my husband Mr Chicken  as she was very hung over I didnt get much reponse LOL the other neighbour was pleased and they are all looking forward to eggs.

To be fair I couldnt say for sure if its an ex batt egg but pretty sure as the others although showing signs of getting ready to lay havent done anything yet....I guess I should know tomorrow when I go and look when I am home from work as I have now split them up.

They where ok together in the cube but not in the run, so I split the run (its big enough) and went to the tip and got an old wooden blanket box and cut a door in it, not bad for Mrs Non DIY LOL.

Its so heart warming to watch them learn and become proper Chickens

I got my run from Bay animal housing and its amazing such good value, I havent finished the roof but once its done I will put pics up and having the cube on the outside is so much better.

So Happy :-) hopefully in a month or 2 or 3 LOL my girls will be ok together

I will defo be putting pics up, I just got to finish the WIR (well the roof) so you can all see it finished LOL, cant wait to get away from this night shift and see if I have any little eggs waiting for me :-)!egg!!egg!!egg!!egg!!egg!

Just wish I knew who was laying!

Mind you I guess I can put pics up and then put some more up when I have finished the guttering, and so on (I will try and do some when I wake up after my evil night shift)

As for names! I have no idea, james (husband) wants to call them duracell, every, ready, and energizer :shameonu:

I think I am going to wait until I see some more personalilty come through and name them

That is fantastic :D With some TLC they will flourish in no time.

My ex batts have been out of the cage since August and are completely different now to how they were when they came out, they have developed from frightened shells of chickens to confident, cheeky lunatics that love nothing more than to forage for worms and dustbath :D

As for advice on who has laid it, if its normal egg size it will definitely be an ex batt and not a POL girl, as the eggs start off quite small when they first come into lay

Hi. so excited as I got home from work to find not 1, not 2 but 4 eggs! !egg!!egg!!egg!!egg! from the ex batts! maybe my "posh birds" should look throught the wire and take note!! LOL least it comfirmed that the 1st egg was from an ex batt

To be fair 2 where yorks on the floor, from soft shell but thats to be expected with what they have been through the last few days with all the uphevel and then the awful cages they where housed in!! They now have lovely food, water, bedding to dig in, grit all over the floor so things should be good for them now.

While my posh birds just seem to eat and pooh LOL

Wish my scales where working grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr no battery, gonna send hubs into town while I go to bed, night all (although morning for you normal people  )

byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee xx
